NG 819

New game 819 is now available.

The re-run is episode 82; its rounds are here and its writeup is here.

Round 1: U R O T L S I B G

I had TOUR, ROUTS, SUITOR, and OUTRIGS.

Although BUSBOY is listed, there is no BUSGIRL in the Macquarie.  That leaves OUTRIGS as the only seven, and the best to be done.

My selection: OUTRIGS

Round 2: L S A E R H P O P

I had SEAL, SHARE, OPERAS, HOPPERS, and PROLAPSE ("Chiefly Pathology to fall or slip down or out of place").  After time I noted some other sevens of SHOPPER, POPLARS, PROPELS, and REPOSAL.

The other eight here is PROPHASE ("the first stage of mitosis during which the chromosomes progressively contract and become thicker and the nuclear membrane begins to disappear").

The other sevens are RAPPELS / SLAPPER / LAPPERS, PAROLES, PERHAPS, LOPPERS, HOPPLES (HOPPLE appears to be a variation of HOBBLE), SPHERAL, and SHOALER (by application of the single-syllable rule to SHOAL as an adjective: "of little depth, as of water; shallow").

My selection: PROLAPSE

Round 3: Target 945 from 100 1 5 3 8 2

The target is 9*105, and that observation leads easily enough to 945 = (8 + 1)*(100 + 5).

My selection: 945 = (8 + 1)*(100 + 5)

Round 4: E I M I S G K R I

Yuck, too many I's.  I had SEMI, MIKES, and GRIMES.

The other sixes are KERMIS ("an annual fair or festival attended with sports and merrymaking, sometimes for charitable purposes"), GRIKES (GRIKE: "a vertical fissure developed, usually in limestone, by solution along a joint"), and maybe REIKIS (REIKI: "the treatment of illness, injury, stress, etc., by the putative release of unpolarised energy through the hands of a trained practitioner").

My selection: GRIMES

Round 5: O T A N D A N E N

I had DOAT (variant spelling of DOTE) and ANDANTE (a musical direction).  If one of those three N's had been a second T instead then ANNOTATED would have been available.

The other seven here is ANTENNA.  The other sixes are TENDON, TANNED, ATONED, and ADNATE ("grown fast to something; congenitally attached").

My selection: ANDANTE

Round 6: Target 718 from 50 2 5 9 3 10

I wanted to make the 18 as 2*9, and the tweak using the 2 seemed a worthwhile option.  That worked out, giving me 718 = 2*((10 - 3)*50 + 9).  Then I noticed that I could get to 700 as 14*50, and another tweak finished it off: 718 = (9 + 5)*(50 + 2) - 10.

My selection: 718 = (9 + 5)*(50 + 2) - 10

Round 7: O N W I D A D C E

I had WINO, WIND, COWED, DANCED, WINDED, and OCEANID ("an ocean nymph").

The other sevens are CANDIED and ADENOID.

My selection: OCEANID

Round 8: Target 831 from 25 100 75 8 6 5

The standard method applies easily enough, giving 831 = 8*100 + 25 + 6.

My selection: 831 = 8*100 + 25 + 6

Round 9: SURE BRIBE

The B's work better doubled, and the -ISE ended is helpful here.

My selection: RUBBERISE (5.0s)

I have a typing mistake. The first maths solution should be corrected to
(100+5)*(8+1)=945
