NG 561

New game 561 is now available.

Round 1: R I A S G N E M I

Alas, I had IMAGINERS (valid) speculatively written down but did not risk it.

My selection: IMAGINES
Best: MIGRAINES

Round 2: I U E N C N D P O

My selection: POUNCED

Round 3: Target 280 from 50 75 4 2 6 5

My selection: 280 = 4*(75 - 5)

Round 4: Y T A O R C D E U

For the second time today I talked myself out of a full monty; in this case, I had EDUCATORY but convinced myself I had made it up.

My selection: EDUCATOR
Best: EDUCATORY

Round 5: R M L E I S F K E

I recalled from episode 397 that FILMERS was not valid while REFILMS was.  A bit of a gotcha, that.  However, I went for another option entirely.

The Macquarie does not have SERFLIKE, so seven is the maximum.

My selection: MILKERS

Round 6: Target 288 from 25 50 75 100 1 9

My selection: 288 = (9*75 - 100 + 1)/(50/25)

Round 7: O I S N O A R P B

We almost had PROBATION in this mix.

My selection: PARISON
Best: BORONIAS

Round 8: Target 348 from 75 50 5 3 10 4

My selection: 348 = (4 + 3)*50 - 10/5

Round 9: MAMA CRANE

My selection: CAMERAMAN (2.6s)

RAISING
POUNCED (after seeing PONCED!)
4*50+75+5=280
COURTED
MILKERS
(9-1)*(25+100/50)+75=291 (went over time)
BARONS
4*75+50-5+3=348

1. smearing
2. pounced
3. (6x75)-(4x5)=280
4. curated
5. filmers
6. [(75/25)x(100-1)]-9=288
7. barons
8. [50x(3+4)]-(10/5)=348
9. cameraman ...eventually! (73.1s)

1. SMEARING. MARGINISE is not a word.
2. POUNCED
3. 280 = (50+6)*5
4. EDUCATOR
5. REFILMS. Unfortunately FILMERS is the invalid counterpart to this (see Ep397).
6. 288 = (100-1)*75/25 - 9. Cool solution, Mike.
7. PARISON
8. 348 = 4*(100-10-3)
9. CAMERAMAN - 6.6s

Thanks Sam re round 6, but I could only get 3 away. Rather it should be me complimenting you and Louise on your identical solutions.

Oops, I didn't notice that it was actually off-target.

Heh, I see you also recalled episode 397, Sam. I guess your match against Naween also helped drive that home.

For my part, I had the dubious distinction of spotting two valid full monties and deciding against both of them. Ouch.
