NG 400

New game 400 is now available.

Round 1: F U E S J A T H I

My selection: FETISH

Round 2: R A E S P O G X I

My selection: PROXIES

Round 3: Target 424 from 75 5 5 3 9 10

My selection: 424 = (75 + 10)*5 - (9 - 5 - 3)

Round 4: K E S P L A E T O

Scrabble allows my choice of PELOTAS, but the Macquarie's only definition for PELOTA is the game.  So PELOTAS would make about as much sense as TENNISES, and is probably invalid.

My selection: [invalid, probably -- PELOTAS]
Best: APOSTLE

Round 5: D N F E S T R A I

My selection: STRAINED

Round 6: Target 852 from 25 100 6 3 4 8

My selection: 852 = 8*(100 + 6) + 4

Round 7: N B C O E I O T R

My selection: ROBOTIC

Round 8: Target 959 from 25 100 75 5 9 7

My selection: 959 = (100 - 5)*(7 + 75/25) + 9

Round 9: PET INCOME

My selection: IMPOTENCE (17.7s)

5*(75+10)-9-(5+3)=424
PLEASE
STRAINED
(6+3)*(100-4)-8=856 (4 off) and just after time (8+4)*(100-25-4)=852
x BOOTER (then realised I should have used REBOOT)
9*100+75-25-7=957 (2 off and went over time)
IMPOTENCE (139s)

Geoff, thanks for the feedback on 'blokiest'.

Bad luck on BOOTER, Mike -- as you observe, REBOOT would be the better option. I'm afraid your after time option for 852 uses the 4 twice, though. An alternative using a similar idea is 852 = 3*4*(100 - 25) - 6*8.

Louise: Personally I think that BLOKIEST should have been fine, but the Macquarie is fickle. I'm going to start deviating from the strict letter of the rules (and show precedent) from now on, as I'll shortly be posting about.
